Alliance for women’s Development, Sierra Leone Chapter (AWOD-SL) is a Non- Governmental Charitable and voluntary organization registered and established in 2013 aim at promoting peace, equality, and empowering to improve socio- economic status of the underprivileged and disadvantaged community women, adolescent and youth. Over the time the work of AWOD has grown to include a focus on access to health, education basic rights, Sexual and Reproductive health and mental health. AWOD highlight the human rights issues of adolescent, youth, women and key population as this profile group of society found to be neglected and disregarded of their contributions and strengths. There is absence of involvement of adolescent, youth and young women in decision / policy making as well as lack of education / awareness regarding health, social and legal, Human right issues, while discriminatory laws and social customs against women hinders them to enhance their self-growth and enjoy equal status in the society. Within the framework of the thought of the founder and realizing the fact that most women in Sierra Leone are still undergoing social inequalities ranging from gender-specific abortions, mistreatment from their spouses, teasing, being married off at an early age and in some cases being denied an education by their families, whilst some take into commercial sex work out of harsh economic or moral reasons, AWOD-SL aim at soliciting resources to change the mind-set and status of target population.
