Running Programmes

Running a counselling and referrals programs for Drug addicts, survivors, patient of HIV&AIDS and Alcoholic at our head office and safe spaces spots since September, 2018. Alcoholism and drug addiction is a disease and for that abstinence is the best way to manage the condition. Our approach is holistic, working with mind, body and spirit targeting a complete turned around in behaviours and attitudes of our beneficiaries putting them on the path of a healthy and worthwhile life . Running six (6) safe space running for in and out of school adolescent girls in their communities giving them information on Human rights, Domestic violence, Mental health, SRH, HIV and AIDS and a lot more is done on a weekly basis. Implementing Vocational Skill Training Project at Susan’s Bay, Moa Warf, DockYard and Kanikay communities since 2019 to 2022 ,Training has been given on art & craft, bead work, fashion design, driving and Make-up artist (since 2019) in which 120 beneficiaries have been covered in both trades. Most of passed out learners have formed Self Help Group and engaged in after completion of training, some of the learners have opened their own business and some of them have placed in business centres.

Awareness Programmes on Aim to reduce teens childbearing, gender base violence, SRH, substance abuse to protect their health and increase educational life skills achievement amongst adolescent’s girls. Girls Circle clubs has been formed by the organization for conducting safe space session. Girls has given name to their clubs as Power for girls and Value4Her funded by purposeful 2018-2022. Research Study on the assessment of the situation sexually exploited adolescent girls and young boys in the sex trade and development of a gender charter in Sierra Leone funded by UNAIDS 2021. Bring empowerment and direct sustainability ‘’BEADS’ supported by 16 days activism awareness campaigns and sessions on major Issues like Health Education, Mental health, Domestic violence, HIV& AIDS, through football gallery supported by Restless Development Sierra Leone 2016. HIV Sero-prevalence study for key population to determine the HIV prevalence among sierra Leone’s key population supported by UNAIDS and NAS 2015. Awareness programs to engage women, especially female sex workers (FSWs) to help in the fight to eradicate Ebola with the Theme ‘Leave No One Behind-Empowering Female sex workers to cope with Ebola and HIV’ funded by handicap international Sierra Leone National Aids secretariats NAS,UNICEF,UNDP 2014.

We comprises of a multi- disciplinary team of social science experts, Counsellors , health personals and dedicated team of community level workers and peer educator, who are the integral part of our community based intervention, created both at urban and rural areas. AWOD-SL is consist of the headquarter office in Freetown with five (5) staffs, Two (2) district offices (Bo, Makeni and Portloko –Lungi) with one District Coordinator and 2 Field staff per district office.
